This is a contract courier position focused on local routes within the region, handling time-sensitive, temperature-controlled shipments such as perishable goods, food products, pharmaceuticals, or other refrigerated items.
All routes are designed to keep you home daily with no over-the-road (OTR) requirements. Work is flexible based on available loads, and you bring your own well-maintained reefer truck.
Compensation
• Up to $100 per stop (pay varies by stop complexity, distance, load requirements, and other factors; high-volume or premium stops pay toward the upper end).
• Potential for strong daily/weekly earnings depending on the number of stops completed and route efficiency.
• Direct deposit or quick-pay options available.
• 1099 independent contractor status – you are responsible for your own taxes, insurance, fuel, maintenance, and other business expenses.
Key Responsibilities
• Safely operate your reefer truck to pick up and deliver temperature-sensitive freight to designated local customers (businesses, restaurants, medical facilities, retailers, etc.).
• Monitor and maintain proper refrigeration unit (reefer) temperatures throughout the route; log temperature checks as required and report any issues immediately.
• Pre-cool trailer/box as needed prior to loading.
• Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, ensuring the reefer unit, truck, and refrigeration equipment are in safe working condition.
• Load and unload freight (may involve hand-truck, pallet jack, or manual handling; some stops may require lift-gate use).
• Adhere to strict delivery time windows and follow customer-specific handling instructions.
• Maintain accurate delivery records, electronic proof-of-delivery (ePOD), temperature logs, and any required documentation via mobile app or provided system.
• Communicate proactively with dispatch regarding delays, issues, or completed stops.
• Comply with all applicable DOT regulations, hours-of-service rules (if applicable for your vehicle class), and company safety policies.
Requirements
• Must own and provide a reefer-equipped truck (box truck, straight truck, or similar refrigerated vehicle in good condition; 16–26 ft preferred, depending on routes).
• Valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle (CDL may be required depending on GVWR and local regulations; non-CDL possible for smaller units).
• Clean driving record with no major violations in the past 3–5 years.
• At least 1–2 years of verifiable experience operating refrigerated delivery vehicles or similar courier routes.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening (if required).
• Reliable smartphone with data for navigation, app-based dispatching, and communication.
• Current vehicle registration, commercial auto insurance (minimum coverage as required by state/company), and proof of vehicle maintenance.
• Must be authorized to work in the US as a 1099 independent contractor (no sponsorship available).
• Strong time management, customer service skills, and attention to detail (especially temperature control and handling perishable items).
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with temperature-controlled logistics or perishable delivery.
• Familiarity with local delivery routes in the area.
• Lift-gate equipped reefer truck.
• TWIC card, hazmat endorsement, or other relevant certifications (if applicable to freight types).
Work Environment & Schedule
• Local routes only – home daily.
• Flexible scheduling; shifts may include early mornings, days, or evenings depending on freight needs.
• Independent contractor – set your own availability and accept loads that fit your schedule.
• Physically demanding at times (lifting up to 50–75 lbs, frequent stops/starts, outdoor work in various weather).
This is a confidential posting – company details provided upon qualified application and NDA if needed.
